The school and I had a meeting of minds when I told them my special needs kiddo could do his OCD/Sensory things-because of his anxiety with hating school because no one understood his Autism and him never getting the opportunity to hear anything but negative comments-or they could have him in a complete meltdown all day.
I have lot of orthodontist appointments and have exscuses and you all still count me for tardy.

This is ridiculous. My son will be 4 soon, going into the school system next year. I’m dissatisfied by hearing this. Extremely. Hopefully you’ll make a change. Thanks for speaking out.

The detention for children that don’t have control when it’s the parents responsibility to make sure their child has enough time to get to class! Now, if a child is at school and Deliberately being tardy for class, then the “punishment fits the crime” , so to speak. However, if a child cannot get to class on time due to being dropped off late, then it’s the teacher/principal/school board to talk with the parents of the child. It is not right to discipline the child for the parents responsibility. It sounds to me that these “professional educators” are being vindictive to the parents by punishing their child because they believe the best way to attack a parent is to take it out on their child This may need to be investigated more.
You would think that a professional educator could address the situation head-on and stead of taking out on an innocent child. This just goes to show you what kind of educators we have to teach our children. and I believe that it’s an absolute disgrace.

We do need to discourage tardiness among schoolchildren, but punishing them for their parents' actions or difficulties is not a solution.

This is sooooo wrong! Kindergarten children are not responsible for driving themselves to school and therefore should not be punished for something that is beyond their control!!! What a crazy messed up system this school is!!!!!!

I have watched in complete horror over the last decade the collapse of our public school systems. It appears that those who are writing codes and regulations are perhaps well meaning but simple not qualified for these positions. It also appears that there's the potential these inept actions are intentional so Charter ie. privatized schools can become the new school system thus ending the right to have an educational system for all. It's time to address these issues and open them to the public.

This should be for all schools and school districts too. I have small children (onebin first grade) when my youngest was in kindergarden last year she got in trouble for this kind of thing that she had no part in (obviously she cant drive herself to school so...) I hope something is done to fix this. This is just ridiculous and our children deserve better than this from the schools we trust every day to teach them and treat them kindly.

It is ridiculous that a KINDERGARTENER is punished for being tardy.
The last time I checked, they aren’t allowed to drive themselves to school!!
They have no control over the matter!
To punish a child for things over which they have NO CONTROL sends a negative message to the child; he will not want to come to school and he will self confidence will start to fade.
Is this what you want for the children? I don’t think so!
Please, punish the true guilty party: parents!

That is inappropriate, ineffective and counterintuitive. Plain and simple. My son and Inarrive to school 20 minutes before school starts most days just to work on reading and get him calibrated for the day. That 20 minutes buffer sometimes gets eaten up by traffic lights being out, an accident along the way or an upset stomach holding us at home for a bit longer and sending us out into traffic. Let’s be honest and say that this school’s policy is too harsh and leaves us looking for ways to communitcate to our children’s educators that maybe some forward thinking and positive encouragement might just produce a better outcome.
