I am very disappointed with this decision. Playing ostrich by keeping your head in the sand about this issue will not make it go away. Students need to be informed.

Not allowing teachers to question history, discuss differences of opinion, help interpret facts, criticize, draw out prejudices, etc. is not acceptable. I want my grand daughters to have the most comprehensive and open education possible. Limiting teachers voices is limiting young minds. Children MUST be ready to lead. I am counting on it!

I'm completely astounded that 9R would adopt this dark ages policy. Are we teaching our children to be discerning or ignorant? Questioning with a curious mind, learning to listen respectfully about differences of opinion is the foundation of education. Something many adults today have lost the ability to do.

We need to advocate on behalf of our teachers, our students, and future generations! Discussion of current events, real history and different perspectives is an essential part of education. Teaching tolerance, compassion, cooperation and critical thinking must be required of current-day public school educators.

As a white parent raising white children within 9-R district, I believe this is effort is vitally important to our childrens' present and future. Anti-racism must be active, not passive, and has a firm place in public education.
