Psychology Today Needs to Wake Up

The author of this article, an accomplished professor no less, is clearly asserting his privilege and further marginalizing the BIPOC community. Whomever from Psychology Today chose to publish this piece is equally ignorant and negligent. It is disturbing to believe he's espoused these views in the academic environment while dually ostracizing colleagues and future clients with his words on this forum. It's time to hold people accountable and to understand that there is a "difference between being held accountable for racism and feeling shame and being shamed" (Brené Brown, 2020). Accountability is needed.

This type of tone deaf antiquated white male writing is long overdue to age out of the psychology world. The white male ideology that was psychology built on needs a massive cultural overhaul in America.

Please use your platform to raise, not bury, voices of BIPOC.

This is truly tone deaf, offensive and racist. There is no reason your publication can’t do better, and must. I will be closing my account.

I found the article smacked of tone policing. It elevated the assumed psychological harm to objecting to racist, sexist and other bigoted behavior over the harm done to the victims of that behavior. Shame on you for buying into the culture of silencing BIPOC voices because some loudmouth, bigoted white person might get their feelings hurt.

As a white person trying to dismantle white supremacy every day, we really do not need any more bolstering and validating of white supremacist thinking in a time when so many of us are working so hard to mitigate the damage caused by such. Your intentional actions counter to this movement say everything about your position, and have consequences.

In general I believe you need to take a hard look at what you are publishing. I have been a member of your directory for many years, but your articles are lacking as of late.

White men need to stay in their lane and stop white-mansplaining how people of color speak out against white women wielding their white privileged.

This article is truly the example of blind white privilege it is insensitive, it perpetuates the behavior that needs to change.

That article is disturbing and inappropriate. I will be canceling my profile unless it is removed and policies are put in place to include the experience of other people than fragile white men.

As a member of your directory and as a POC, I find this deeply disappointing and will be retracting my membership should you not make these changes.

Get rid of this article. I'm flabbergasted that it even exists, especially given the ongoing legitimate criticism of psychologytoday.com as is. Wake up.

This is disgusting and disappointing. I will not continue to give my money to a company that posts articles defending racists. This article needs to be taken down.
