Serious allegations have been raised about Portland State University President Rahmat Shoureshi. In the spirit of shared governance and as the voice of the PSU faculty, the Faculty Senate has a responsibility to independently assess such allegations. No single member of the faculty should have to stand alone to ask the Senate to act on this matter. Therefore, we, the undersigned collectively request the following:

The Faculty Senate shall investigate the allegations by doing the following:

  • Request from the University copies of the public records that were provided to The Oregonian and any other media outlets regarding President Shoureshi.
  • Request that the Board of Trustees provide information about any consultants hired to investigate President Shoureshi. This would include copies of the contracts, the process being used for the investigations, and how faculty can provide input into these investigations.
  • Request from the University and the Board of Trustees the materials being used by the consultants hired by the Board of Trustees, as well as any reports provided to the Board.
  • Provide an opportunity for any PSU faculty member, employee, or student to provide relevant information about the allegations. This process will allow those providing information to remain anonymous except to the subgroup within Faculty Senate leading the investigation.
  • Make the public records collected from the University and Board pertaining to President Shoureshi's tenure available to the PSU faculty.
  • Provide a report to the Faculty Senate at the May Faculty Senate meeting.
  • No later than the June Faculty Senate meeting provide a final report and recommendation to the Faculty Senate on whether to hold a vote of no confidence.
