The requirements are officially being re-evaluated and this change is entirely because you kept the pressure on. I honestly never thought we would see this happen so quickly. Please keep watching the board for the new guidelines as they come out.
I, _______, believe that the MTLE (Minnesota Teacher Licensure Exam) and TPA should be re-evaluated so that pre-service teachers may all receive a fair and equal chance at being successful in their career choice. I agree that standardized testing is not the only way to examine a highly qualified candidate for teaching. I would like to see change.
Thank you for speaking out about this issue! I don’t understand why they tell us to never teach kids to just memorize math just for the regurgitation on a test then forget it...then, as teachers we are asked to take the math basic skills and regurgitate memorized formulas with no calculators (which is not measuring anything!) I know all the material I just take a little longer to do long division than use my calculator! I’m not dumb I just need more time! Testing is the worst measure of human competency!

my wife graduated this spring with an elementary education degree, and a 4.0 GPA. Why should she not be able to pass a science and social subtest?? I am a Ph.D candidate in chemistry. Some of the questions in the science study guide I would not have known until my junior year of undergrad. This is ridiculous.

This is not a basic math test this a torture test. I just took it and I failed. I need to go back to school and spend hundreds of dollars in college math courses about calculus and advance algebra to be able to answer most of these questions.

Would love to help out some how. I am beyond frustrated with the state testing. I am tired of spending money and failing. I graduated from SCSU in 2011. I have failed my last exam (content, so I know it) 5 times and STILL cannot pass it. At this point, there is no reason why I shouldn't be teaching full time in my own classroom.

I have taken the MTLE tests multiple times and are having issues with passing. There is no practice testing or any where to go to get help to prepare for these tests. I want to be a teacher and if it wasn't for these tests, I would have my permanent license by now. The level of math that the test goes up to is pointless. All I had to take in college was general math, so was never exposed to that high of math. It needs to be looked at and figure out what can help make it better for future teachers.

I support this 100 percent! I just failed the basic skills reading for the 5th time, have studied and studied over and over again and I still can't pass. What the state is saying with this test is that since I can't pass a test, I am unable to teach our youth. I was deans list three out of the four semesters during SCSU teaching program and have passed all but two of the test (BS reading and subtest 3). For two test to hold me back from teaching is an outrage! I get it they want us to know the content but what about the teachers who took tests 10 years ago? Why should I be at a disadvantage and have to pay more money and study more just because I am younger? The state needs to do something, whether it be lowering the passing score or making all veteran teachers take these test! There are people who could take these tests and pass them right away without even studying, SOOO that must mean they can handle a group of 30 kids and teach them the content that is required? Absolutely not, there needs to be a change and it need to happen now!
