Please do not get rid of the Spanish program. It is vital for our children's understanding of language & vital to the community at large.

We chose Chelsea Prep partly because of its strong Spanish curriculum. Please don't take it away and allow our kids to suffer.

We need all of the Arts in our school including Foreign Language Arts. I was hoping the school would expand the foreign language program not shrink it. This is a travesty!

Our children have been so lucky to be learning a 2nd language since K at PS33. They have worked very hard and absolutely love Ms. Sorribas, whose passion for languages and dedication to the kids is very special. Why drop Spanish now, after such momentum? It would bring the school to a lower level.

The Spanish program at PS 33 is one of the cornerstones of a well-rounded, enriching curriculum. To eleminate it would be a disservice to our school and to our children, many of whom have now been studying the language for several years and need the consistency of continued study to progress in the language. I strongly support Spanish at PS33.

Research supporting the educational benefits of learning a second language have been overwhelming. Cutting the program makes no educational sense. See this link for a bibliography of academic papers supporting instruction in a second language. http://www.cal.org/earlylang/benefits/a_case_for_foreign_languages.html

Any language is important. Today's economic and social trend favors Spanish and Chinese, so I support this petition.

Spanish with Ms. Sorribas is one of the highlights of the education our daughter has received at PS 33. It is incomprehensible why the school would consider eliminating such a critical part of the curriculum.

Knowing a second language is extremely important! It's a great way for our brains to process information. Keep our kids smart :-)

We need to keep Spanish & Ms. Sorribas in PS 33. It is an important and meaningful skill for our children to have.

Foreign language instruction is one of the reasons we picked P.S. 33. Ms. Sorribas is one of the finest teachers at the school. Our children understand and speak some basic Spanish thanks to her teaching despite having had no previous exposure to the language. It is not clear to me why eliminating Spanish has been under consideration this year and I know many other parents feel the same way. - Giles Nicholson
