Every thing great about "Lakeview" is staying the same. The Name isn't disappearing completely. Just Breathe! The people I've seen with the biggest opposition to this, and it's just a casual observation, don't even live in the STATE anymore.

I think those who suggest "Lakeview" have a valid point about the history of the area, although I'm not sure that with two neighborhoods keeping the name Lakeview that it needs to be the name for the whole district. I do generally like the idea of having the word "lake" in the district name, but am fine with pretty much everything that's been suggested along those lines.

I have no idea why my signature says that I live in Ogden. I do not- I live in Provo- on the "westside" in Harbor Park.

I think it's a great idea. We live in what we consider the best part of Provo. We chose here because of the lake and River trail. I think having this name will better reflect the beauty that is here in this part of the city.

My wife's family founded Lakeview. Her great-grandfather, Peter Madsen was one of the first settlers homesteading at the mouth of the Provo River where the Boat Harbor and State Park are today. He was instrumental in saving Utah County from starvation after the grasshopper epidemic of 1854-1855. Peter, and a few other brethren who had been fishermen in Denmark, helped the Saints catch enough fish from Utah Lake to feed the people through the winter after the crops were destroyed. People from Salt Lake County also came to fish and provide for their families, including Brigham Young, John Taylor, and Parley P Pratt.
This effort to change the name appears to be a promotional stunt for recognition and marketing of the "Westside". Combining into larger entities is always seen as a way to garner greater clout and persuasion to further your own interests. Re-naming the area to be the "Lake District" is about as stupid as changing the name of "East Bay" to "Town Center". It is not the center of Provo, but just a dream of the developers to create a new center of commerce and make them rich.
If the area needs more influence, they can unite to form a coalition or committee of communities that can address concerns. There is no need to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

I live in the Tree Streets but I love the name change idea and hope that Utah Lake will be cleaned up with vital neighborhoods and businesses (not a lot) around it!

I love this suggestion. I agree that "west side" has less than optimal connotations and would love to change the perception to match reality.
