I think that it is a wonderful idea to have such a designation, that will help to unite the area as it continues to develop and grow.

I'm not particular about Lakeview vs Lake District. I think going forward it makes sense to give people something to say besides West Side. Probably best for Provo as a whole as well, not just the residents, since there will still be a lot more development to come and this will provide a more descriptive name to identify the area.

If you read in the "Highlights" section, Don, and BJ, the name of Lakeview, isn't going away. Those of us who still LIVE in the area, take PRIDE in where we live! I LOVE my neighborhood, but I DO feel like we oftentimes get shunned or pushed aside, so to speak, as the "forgotten child" of Provo. This is my interpretation of it anyway.

The name Lakeview wouldn't be done away with. Lakeview North neighborhood, Lakeview South neighborhood, Lakeview Elementary school will still carry on the historic name. This is for everything west of the freeway which is commonly referred to as the 'westside'. This name was thought to be an inclusive name for the entire area i.e. Provo Bay, Sunset, Lakewood and Fort Utah neighborhoods. The common theme in naming roads and places out here has been the lake. Calling it the Lake District seems to have a better feeling behind it than calling it the 'westside'.

Why change the name? This area was the community of Lakeview long before Provo annexed it in. Why do away with what it has historically been called?

From its pioneer beginnings-the area was begun by settlers who were taught to fish by the Indians even before Provo was established. They have always called it Lakeview. Why would we want to change it? In honor of the founders on whose land we stand, walk, ride, and live, we think that we should keep the name of "Lakeview" for this area!!!
