It is of critical importance to facilitate the visa delivery for jamaican students. it is essential to maintain a status quo regarding long stay visas between both countries, since numerous cooperation programs quite similar to this one are at stake. As a former french member of the 'france caraibes' joint master degree program ( between UWI MONA & Political Sciences Institute of Bordeaux. which has, so far, brought a dozen of jamaican folks in french territories ) I truly support this initiative.

It is quite difficult for me to comprehend why the assitants de langue have to go all the way to Panama to obtain their french visas. With so many European Embassies in Jamaica, the French government can easily solicit one of them to dispense french visas on their behalf. I remember years ago when the French embassy was closed, It was indeed at the German people used to go to obtain their French visas. I am very optimistic that this matter will be resolved on a positive note.

This programme has helped to keep French--which is almost extinct within many curricula--alive in our High Schools.

I believe that the cooperation between France and Jamaica has facilitated strong cultural exchanges which have been mutually beneficial to the peoples of both territories. Having benefited from such cultural exchanges, I endorse this petition which seeks to secure the preservation of these ties and the facilitation of further exchanges.

I believe that it would be a worthy cause to keep the French consulate in Jamaica, because this program is well appreciated by all Jamaicans who both applied in previous years and intend to apply for the assistantship program. This program strengthens relations between Jamaica and France, as the French have a strong and dynamic presence in Jamaica.
