At the invitation of the French National Institute of Agronomic Research --INRA, I attended their fiftieth anniversary celebrations, and the Livestock symposium held in Point-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe, November 30, 1996 to December 7, 1996.
This was a mutually beneficial experience as I was asked to prepare and deliver a presentation entitled " Beef Cattle Breeds in Jamaica" to the conference, while also updating on the livestock situation in the French Caribbean islands.
I unreservedly support this campaign.

Dr. R. Thomas

French is very good for the country's linguistic development and offers a very good employment avenue for the youngsters.

For the sake of the programmes of which the French Government is a stakeholder itself; and all the good that has come from them, I hope that the request will be granted.

As a french student and former beneficiary of an exchange program in Jamaica, I wish to see more opportunities for cultural exchanges for students in both countries. This experience has made me a better student, professional, leader, and person. Being exposed to a different culture and a different language is one of the most eye-opening experience one can have, and I support this petition because I wish to see as many students as possible seize such opportunities, despite of financial ressources from those students and their families. Please consider an arrangement that would facilitate the delivery of visas and still make it possible for our meriting youth to join the program.

I had the pleasure of being a part of the programme in 1995. By the end of my contract, both teachers and pupils in Toulon (south of France) knew about Jamaica and its rich heritage and people. Let's hope we'll be another solution to this.

I support this petition as I am aware of the considerably greater expense the new arrangements will cause to any students wishing to travel to French territories to participate in educational programmes - not only the French-English teachers programme but many other students will be adversely affected and many will not be able to engage in such educational exchanges. Ease of mobility and cultural exchanges are crucial to deepening social, political and economic links between countries.

Please try to find an alternative solution to the visa issue. This is a such a beneficial program, both for Jamaica and France. As an English teacher myself, battling against the incomprehensible viewpoint that Jamaicans are not "native speakers" of English, I cannot stress the importance of maintaining this programme to ensure Jamaican teachers get the experience and recognition they deserve.

The ties between Jamaica and France should be getting closer not separating. No need to move lets establish closer links between our peoples and establish greater ties. My vision is this can only work for the good of our people. so I sign this petition with great anticipation, that the right decision will made and our peoples will be the beneficiaries of it.

This is a crucial cultural programme that must be preserved! If the Jamaican government is serious about tourism and youth development then every effort must be made to safeguard this Programme.
