There are many people interested in learning a second language... French in particular. Please help make this option viable.

Please consider the socio-economic differences and needs of Jamaica and Jamaicans as against Europe and Europeans (and indeed developing countries within which developed countries have a diplomatic presence) when strategies are being devised.

I am a former English Language Teaching Assistant and I will forever cherish that experience. I would not want the French consulate to close

Over the years, the French Embassy staff members have given commendable service to the mutual benefit of both countries -France and Jamaica. The English Language Teaching Assistantship Programme as well as the Alliance Francaise both have been flagship projects which have helped generations of Jamaicans to self-actualized through foreign language fluency & competency. The news of the imminent closure of the French Embassy in Jamaica has been received with sadness. In this regard, it is hoped that this decision be reconsidered; if not then at least, ONLINE facilities will be created and implemented to enable Jamaicans to access French consulate and diplomatic services electronically-without leaving their homeland. If this is not possible in the short term, then perhaps other Caribbean territories, in which French Embassies are located, could be asked to provide these services to Jamaicans instead. NB: Caribbean territories, other than Jamaica, with French embassies are Cuba, Haiti, Dominican Republic and Trinidad & Tobago. This is worth considering!!

This programme has been of great benefit to persons who have taken part in it and to have it discontinued in Jamaica will be s a detrimental blow to the plans and aspirations of many more.

The retention of the French embassy is in keeping with the desire for the preservation of a rich legacy of mutually beneficial diplomatic relations between Jamaica and France. The English Language Teaching Assistantship Programme represents the cooperation and commitment of both countries to harness full human resource potential through language education. Jamaica is pleased to be engaged in this partnership and welcomes the continued existence of the French embassy to facilitate sustainability of the said Programme.

The continuation of this program is integral to the continued growth an development of our people by allowing them tho exposure. Further this unexpected cost to go to Panama is a burden a lot of these teaching assistant candidates will be unable to afford. Your assistance with providing an alternative is vital.
