A rezoning of this site would put a densely developed, isolated island of condos next to an historical site. The proposed plan is not an integrated one, fitting for the neighborhood, nor is it a plan for a higher good or a commercial purpose. I am not against people making a profit on land development, but it seems a waste of Charlotte's cultural resources to destroy the character of this 250 year old neighboring, historic site (for which Providence Road was named) for 6 condos.

I do not agree with this proposal. Its already difficult enough during school hours to get in and out of PSE. This would cause traffic to back up onto Providence Rd, which is very dangerous.

I urge the Charlotte, NC City Council NOT to approve Rezoning Petition 2017-202

It would be a shame to do this with the congestion. Especially for the school children & parents.

Traffic is already a NIGHTMARE. Please don't do this.

Please keep current restrictions in place restricting development to 3 units/acre. Charlotte is beautiful, and that is largely due to our commitment to space and these restrictions. We are not a concrete jungle; please don't set a precedent that allows us to become one.

There is a significant amount of traffic all day in that area. The location is already overburdened with traffic and refining the zoning for this small piece of land should not be accepted. NCDOT should already have the counters out there for the proof of this statement.

The impact from the Waverly project has caused enough congestion/traffic issues in that section of Providence Rd. and we haven’t even seen the worst of that yet. This re-zoning will only allow for more traffic and dangerous conditions for the families of PSE and Providence Presbyterian Church.

Let’s preserve a historical site. We do not need more McMansions on postage stamp size lots.

Though I live in Touchstone several miles away, I am in this area often enough to know that further traffic congestion will only add to what is already an area which has great difficulty handling the current volume of traffic. Common sense says no to anything residential or commercial which would add to the already existing congestion!

I am a neighbor and a school parent at PSE. We don't need additional congestion, especially given the morning and afternoon congestion on Providence Rd and around the school in general. Needs to be a safe and reasonable traffic pattern at those times, not one where people are trying inch through, blocking traffic, crosswalks, etc. because of added congestion.

This change in zoning is not within the current character or spirit of the existing surrounding area.

I strongly object to this rezoning plan because of its effect on Providence Church. Several reasons : 1/ The church occupies a prominent position in the community through its location, its faithful connection with generations of local residents, and its historic structure as the oldest frame sanctuary in the county. The church was built before Providence Road existed, and gave its name to what is now one of the major surface roads in the city. The sanctuary upper galleries were used by slaves in the years before the civil war. The graveyard site was used for battle planning by North Carolina patriots in the War of Independence against the British. The church was founded in 1767, recently celebrating its 250th anniversary. Anything which robs the church of this heritage is a bad thing, with poor vision for historic value. Any new housing would seriously impact the well-recognized landmark character of the church. 2/ The planned entrance / exit for new housing, on Providence Church Lane involves safety challenges for the parents and elementary school children of Providence Spring School. Please have a council member visit the site between 07:00 and 08:00 am and between 2:30 and 3:30 pm to see for themselves and to gauge the effect of any additional traffic. School buses even now have a hard time navigating the narrow roads. It would be very difficult for any emergency vehicles, fire engines, ambulances to negotiate the area during heavy school traffic. Any street parking necessitated by new housing should be out of the question for Providence Church Lane because of the congestion and safety issues, both for pedestrians and vehicular traffic. 3/ There has been a huge number of new housing units constructed south of I-485 in the Waverly development, ( further contributing to traffic problems along Providence Road ), so I see no need for yet more units a short distance away. Surely the minor amount of extra tax revenue is out-weighed b
