Do not do this...it will badly impact traffic and safety

My son has attended the Providence Spring Elementary School and I have resided in the neighborhoods surrounding the school over the past couple of years. Increasingly, residential and commercial development in this area has made pedestrian and traffic safety a significant concern; the increase in construction without sufficient consideration of the impact on the space available and the traffic patterns has made safe travel to and from the tight area surrounding the school and church already difficult. Adding additional homes in this already overused space will only exacerbate this problem. I urge all planning committees to reconsider any attempts to further rezone this area and/or increase lot density and prioritize the long term viability of Charlotte neighborhoods over short term development gains.

This has been my church for 15 years, I like it the way it is and I think adding townhomes would decrease its value and historical values as well

Please do not rezone this tiny area. If this area is rezoned, the negative impacts on the church (PPC) and school (PSE) will be colossal.

These are excellent points, Mr. Harris. In fact they are the very points that the opposition will make at the hearing on May 21st. I hope you can attend.

I live on Bellwood Lane. Both of my children went to Providence Spring. Building 6 townhomes on the corner of that busy intersection is a ridiculous idea. Consideration of the children and school must be at the forefront and a priority.

It violates several aspects of the Charlotte Planning Providence Rd/I485 Area Plan Update (Area Plan) as approved by Charlotte City Council in 2000.
It sets the concerning precedent of 6 units per acre which exceeds the residential density requirements at 3 units/acre per the Charlotte Planning Providence Rd/I485 Area Plan Update (Area Plan). The Area Plan states the design for this area should be “compatible with existing neighborhoods” which are predominately single-family homes.
PPC is on the National Register of Historic Places by the US Department of the Interior and identified as a Charlotte Mecklenburg Historic Site. The historic character of PPC will be adversely affected by the approval of this rezoning petition.
We have significant safety concerns particularly during the mornings and the afternoons due to traffic from Providence Springs Elementary School backing up onto Providence Church Lane in both directions. Three safety concerns are a) backed up traffic in both directions restricts emergency safety vehicle access, b) Clear passage is further restricted by the proposed parallel parking along Providence Church Lane, and most importantly c) Many parents park in the main PPC parking lot and walk their children across Providence Church Lane to/from Providence Spring Elementary School. Under the proposed UR2 (CD) zoning motor vehicle and pedestrian safety becomes a major safety concern.

This area should remain undeveloped as to not negatively affect the Church and cemetery.

This zoning change will allow development of dense housing too close to nearby neighborhoods and a historic landmark.

The density is not appropriate for the site context and community character.
