As full-time professors in the Liberal Arts Department at Hongik University, we would like to request that either:
- An additional photocopier be provided in both A408 and E504-1 OR
- The existing photocopiers be replaced with new models
Currently, there is only ONE photocopier in A408, and ONE photocopier in E504-1. Both photocopiers are aging, and suffer from overheating, frequent paper jams, and other problems such as random switching of orientation and unexplained error messages.
We
feel that the current level of provision of photocopying facilities is
INADEQUATE given the number of teaching staff who are regularly using
these copiers.
The copier in A408 is the main copier available to the 26 teaching staff of in the Liberal Arts department as well as professors teaching in A building from other departments. The copier in E504-1 is also used by a large number of professors teaching in E building on a regular basis, and yet, both copiers are frequently out of order, leading to inconvenience and delays.
We aim to deliver excellence in our teaching; we ask that the university supply us with the facilities we need to achieve this.

The copier in A408 overheats and jams frequently. Many times I've been unable to get the copies I've needed, either because someone is using it, or because it is in an error state. I don't have time to come back to the copy room again and again, so I just ended up buying an Epson workforce printer to use at home, which is FAR more reliable. If there was another copier in that room it would really take the pressure off at busy times
The problem possibly is that the machines are inadequately maintained. Also, it would be great to get keys to the computers in the classrooms, so that we can keep them locked.
Reliable printing facilities are a critical basic tool for teaching. Please repair, replace, and, if possible, augment the current copier facilities.
Sorry, but we really need a better copy machine.

This is an issue that really needs to be fixed. I have spent countless hours and a lot of my own money (finally buying a printer) because of this. Every office should have computers and a printer, but surely the teacher's work rooms!

Leading organizations recognize that employees are their most important asset and that employee satisfaction and work conditions are critical factors in an organization's brand image. I am proud to work at Hongik but our most basic needs as educators are not being met and that, from my perspective, reflects poorly on the whole organization.
