We, the high school students of New York City, believe that all students should receive comprehensive consent education, regardless of gender, to combat the prevalence of rape culture and normalization of sexual violence within our community and on college campuses. It is essential to the betterment of our society that the next generation of college students are aware of issues surrounding consent and sexual harassment and violence so that rape culture can be eliminated. Since private schools are in control of their own curriculum, these schools have the power integrate consent education into their curriculum. Private schools have an affirmative responsibility to educate their students on issues beyond the classroom in order to truly prepare us for college and adult life.
