We are a Labour council and we should be showing the Tory party what true inclusive education is.

It is extremely important to tap into and help develop Autistic brains. We are the people who spot things that don’t even register with NTs. There is a vast amount of potential being missed.

Too many children are being forced out of schools and parents are home educating out of necessity rather than choice. Parents who cannot then manage to maintain employment, are already under more pressure in their caring role than other parents (eg up during the night every night with child/teenager) and may not have the skills and knowledge to also be their child’s teacher.

Too many children being dumbed down and held back due to teachers not seeing their potential and not the right support

My daughter has PDA which is part of the autism spectrum. My daughter was excluded at her mainstream for a term, this could of been avoided had the school taken her special educational needs to account, however this wasn’t and yet there were chances when they could of support her and step in sooner. She has also had unlawful exclusions.

This council needs to improve and invest inservices for kids with Autism. Not try to cut the services to the bone. What will happen next?
Education in the community.
Just like care in the community, look after your child's education at home, as bespoke as you wish to make it! Then we'll cut places and close down schools. Then blame overworked underpaid staff.

This would have been perfect for my son a few years ago to prevent the need for an out of city placement.

As a mother of a child who has ASC I am so behind this! My son has done nothing but struggle in mainstream school even when they’ve done the best to help him. A school like this would benefit so many children! Why are we not investing in them when one day they will be the ones who we all rely on.

The country needs to nurture the wealth of talent in high functioning Autistic children who will be at the forefront of our creative and technological future.

We need an education system that meets the diverse needs of it's pupils
