Even “high functioning” kids with autism need a lot of extra support and can find mainstream school overwhelming at times. Schools are struggling to meet children’s and parents’ needs.

So vital. And for those with other spectrum differences too. We in West Sussex are in the same position.

All children have a right to appropriate education for their needs. It is time for change to the attitude of successive governments who indulge in self interests only.

As a step parent of two children who have struggled in school and experienced school exclusion as a result of Autism, I support this. It is a disgrace that parents are forced to struggle every step of the way and these children are being destroyed by a school system that is utterly incapable of meeting their needs

The transition from primary to secondary is incredibly stressful for the majority. Those who have additional challenges are left to cope and it is a sink or swim approach which simply not good enough.

Autistic kids deserve a fair deal to have as normal a life as possible. Education is at the core of this.
