I compare Helen Joyce to the 17th century judge John Holt who was able to acquit women accused of witchcraft by bending the law. Like the brave nurse Sandie Peggie, Helen Joyce is using the law to defend women's spaces and women's identity and their place in sport, in a world vigorously challenged and 'possessed' by the cult of transgenderism - a powerful global faith based movement which that like the long discredited practice of lobotomy, promotes pharmaceutical and surgical mutilation of vulnerable young people. There is nothing wrong with gender performativity. There is everything wrong when gender and sex are conflated.

Trans lives need to be supported and protected by this University. Allowing transphobic speaker to talk at all, let alone not in a debate format with trans voices given as much platform as transphobes, goes against this University and the colleges duty to protect trans people.

Giving a transphobe a platform to deny the existence of certain students at the university is wrong. It doesn’t matter if she doesn’t believe they should exist, the fact is they do exist and they shouldn’t be made to feel unsafe. Further to this, there isn’t even a chance for anyone to disagree or debate her, it’s just her. And the title of the talk implying she knows everything about gender and her word is gospel is incredibly harmful to those whose genders she is denying and rejecting.

Blatant transphobia has no place in universities. I am surprised that such old-hat bigotry is being platformed at Oxford of all places. It is a great embarrassment that Helen Joyce was even invited—an embarrassment that could only be exceeded by actually platforming such bigotry. Do not let this happen, please!

As an alum and former employee of the university, and as a trans person, I feel perplexed, alarmed and betrayed by the institution's continued willingness to offer a platform to people like Helen Joyce. Why, when there are ample academics who actually study gender, are people with no relevant academic credit being invited to publicly express their anti-intellectual transphobic ideas? That these events are taking place during LGBT History Month only adds insult to injury.
