In my opinion, schools do not give enough light to these issues. Mental health is becoming a larger problem, and many students, while they may know a few illnesses or things like that, may not fully understand the impact that it has on many people's lives and how to help someone going through these situations or how to help themselves. Knowing and understanding the issues and problems that students faced with a mental health problem is one of the many things a school should be obligated to deal with.

schools are meant to be a safe place for people but now they're so often contributors to the mental health issues it sucks I hate the way schools think that mental health doesn't matter and they can't see what this is doing to the kids

This needs so much more attention. It needs to be dealt with its so much more sensitivity. Kids are struggling more and more and suicide stats are sky rocketing. This needs to be addressed. It needs more knowledge and understanding. This is important.

I agree. Of course, it is not my place to tell a school what it should and should not do, since my own school is generally okay. However, I would expect a school's staff/prefects to tell students that they cannot go to a trip as soon as they have made that decision, with good reason too. There is no excuse for banning a student on going to a trip unfairly and without reason. Sure, I may be young but I have a sense of what is wrong and right, and voices needs to be heard to the ways that schools treat mental illness - physical illness is bad, but it will not get worse if you verbally abuse it. Mental illness is different - it is fragile though easily disturbed, and you cannot hope to make students better by yelling at them. I agree to this petition - schools should do more about mental health situations.

honestly, i couldn't agree more. schools and mental health just don't mix well. they say they care but they don't, and everyone needs to be treated fairly. i really hope this, along with others, start making a difference.

A school is supposed to support someone, and I believe that our school has failed in its duty of care, and hopefully they can see the error in their ways and sort it out.
i agree
