WE, the undersigned public school employees of Alcorn County of Mississippi, have affixed our names to this petition as a call to you--our elected state representatives--TO TAKE ALL ACTIONS NECESSARY to protect the Public Employees Retirement System of Mississippi such that retirement benefits are not reduced. With some of the lowest salaries in the nation, PERS is one of the only recruitment and retention mechanisms to ensure highly trained and effective educators in MS schools. PERS provides a benefit that keeps teachers in the classroom. PERS MUST REMAIN A DEFINED BENEFIT PLAN!!!

I spent the morning reading through the stories people are posting and it is honestly heartbreaking to see how much this uncertainty is weighing on teachers who have already given so much to our students. I am currently putting together a folder of these comments to send over to the legislative offices because they really need to see the faces behind the pensions instead of just looking at spreadsheets.

I honestly never thought we would see this much momentum gather so quickly but I guess it shows how much everyone cares about our future in the classroom. My phone has been buzzing nonstop with notifications and I keep thinking about how much we really need this plan to stay exactly as it is for the sake of every teacher in this state.

Ridiculous to even think about messing with this. We get paid peanuts as it is. Take away the retirement and everyone will just leave MS.

My husband spent 30 years in the classroom for this state. Do not take away what he earned after all those years of hard work.

Fix the budget elsewhere. Dont touch our retirement fund. We have sacrificed enough!

Keep PERS as is. It is the only reason I am still teaching at my age.

THIS IS OUR MONEY. Stop trying to balance the books on the backs of teachers who are already struggling to get by.

Teachers deserve better than this. Hands off PERS.
