this is an especially backwards way of staffing a school that places nearly all of their focus on the test scores that kids push out for them instead of actual growth and development. I'm sure the teachers getting fired are still the last few who actually get kids passionate about their respective subjects and I would bet the grades coming from their classrooms clearly reflect that.

In my high school years at LC 2010-2014, most the newer teacher were who I learned from the most. They're fresh out of school themselves so they still get it. They all deserve to keep their jobs that they worked hard to have and to keep.

Ms. Scapini was one of the best teachers I've ever had! I would hate for her to lose her job, and hate even more so if other kids couldn't experience her amazing lectures.

I'm actually livid that the schools would get rid of some of the best teachers that I've ever had to ensure the spots of seniority of older staff members. Teachers should effectively and positively impact their students lives, giving them the desire to learn. Teachers with poor educational reviews, like Mrs. Potter, Mr. Matte, and Mrs. Wolff do not instill these values in their students. I do hope LCPS school system reviews this policy of removing "last hired" staff and remove staff that are not effective in their teaching.

Mrs.St.Aubin is not only one of the best teachers at LC but she was also my group leader at Camp Cavell losing her would be terrible for LCHS.

It's ridiculous you would think the school would want better teachers which would result in better test scores which would promote more parents to have their kids go to our school which would also give the school more money. Better teachers = benifical for school

it is irresponsible of the school board to use this methond to chose their teachers. the school board should only want the best teachers to help their students to learn. they shouldnt be chosing their teachers based on how long they have worked here. teachers with low evaluations should be cut before the teachers with higher evaluations regardless the amount of years teaching.

Mrs. St. Aubin took us to Peru. She gave me the best experience I've ever had and helped me speak Spanish to native speakers. I've had her since 7th grade and seeing one of the best teachers go would be very heartbreaking

This is by far the best, newest and friendly teacher I've ever had. She makes English fun and that's hard, if you make her leave but keep teachers like ms. Dubay then you are nuts

I wholeheartedly agree that high performers should be retained over those who "just" have tenure. My parents pulled us out of public school for this very reason. Sadly, it's the teachers' unions that drive the policy of protecting seniority over performance, not the school districts. Hopefully they get the message.

Getting rid of teachers based on a lack of seniority is absolutely ridiculous. If anything, these younger teachers are able to connect to students more and help get them engaged in learning. Ms. Scapini was an amazing person in my, as well as many others', high school journey, and her passion for her job and students is evident in everything she does. She has so much more to bring to the school soon and deserves to showcase that.

I’m 16 and a junior at LC. I transferred to this district in the 8th grade from East Detroit Public Schools. One of the first things I noticed upon arriving, and still continue to notice every year, is what great teachers L’anse Creuse has. Mrs. St. Aubin is my Spanish teacher and is definitely one of those who set L’anse Creuse apart from the other districts. She is far more than just a Spanish teacher. She is intelligent, caring, and deeply passionate about her job. This was made especially apparent to me on Friday as I watched her fight back tears telling us she will no longer be a teacher at our school next year. She talked about how she’d known her entire life that teaching was what she wanted to do. I can relate to this, because it is also true for me. I’ve talked to her about this a few times. In one conversation I told her about the reservations I had about going into teaching because situations like the one she now finds herself in are becoming increasingly common. She told me that to her, teaching wasn’t something you do for the money, but something you do because you’re passionate about it. She’s talked to my class a lot about how she wants to teach us not only about Spanish, but about being good human beings. She inspired and encouraged me to follow my dream, and showed me what an important impact teachers can have. Thanks to her guidance, I’ll be double majoring in Spanish and elementary education when I go to college next year. She truly goes above and beyond her job description. However, when the district made the decision to displace Mrs. St. Aubin, they did not take that into consideration. The only thing taken into consideration was the amount of years she’d been teaching. I do not know much about the economy of a school district, nor do I pretend to. However, what I do know is that the district exists (or at least should exist) to serve its students. Taking away someone who makes such a difference in students’ lives and excels at her profession is

Sara St. Aubin is one of the best teachers I've ever had. She is the reason I kept pursuing spanish and I am now currently in spanish 5 and wish to minor in it in college. Losin her would be a huge loss to LC

This policy is ridiculous. As an alumni of L'Anse Creuse I can say that a lot of the best teachers that I had were the younger, less experienced teachers that can be removed under this policy. I can recount numerous times where older teachers would just coast, or give busy work and then sit on their computers and do who knows what. This does nothing good for the district. It only serves to protect older teachers, whose performance is slipping; If there is a benefit to this policy, it is only that. The ones who suffer are the children, who have to be begrudgingly taught by these instructors, and the teachers who actually care and put large amounts of effort into their work.
