The proposed development and zoning change at 1st and Pioneers Sts. needs to be delayed if not completely scratched. The developers have shown no interest in taking into account the nature of the land, its unique topography, its positioning near the park and potential serious problems with water retention in an area ill prepared for future flooding. There is no plan for dealing with traffic from an unknown future interchange at hwy 77. The city planners seem only to have the developers interests in mind and are completely disregarding multiple policies in Plan Forward that call for ecological, agricultural and topographic mindfulness. We cannot afford to lose this sacred area. It needs to remain agricultural zoned and perhaps be a working regenerative ag area that is outlined in the Climate action plan or perhaps a solar farm. Let’s do better than this cut and paste development. It doesn’t work here!

Wilderness is a significant reason why I live in Lincoln. I want it to be protected and valued as it is an incredibly unique and beautiful space. To do that, we must wisely manage the areas bordering the park as well.

Beautiful parks like Wilderness, where you can go walk for miles and escape in to nature, are what make Lincoln and it’s surrounding areas so wonderful! Wilderness has so many areas to explore throughout the year. PLEASE do not diminish it.

The UN Climate report that was just released this last week is a dire example of what happens if we don’t treasure our earth above mass production. Wilderness Park is a treasure to Lincolnites, and it would serve us all to ensure this space is kept protected.
