Protect West High's American Sign Language Program

We need this in our lives. Everyone should be able to understand each other. Thank you

ASL is just as valuable as a foreign language. I learned ASL in high school. And now I use ASL often in customer service work. It makes it easier and quicker to talk with someone who may be hard of hearing. High school is a really good age to learn when the brain is still growing. You retain more at a younger age.

This is a WONDERFUL program!

This would be tragic!

It makes NO SENSE to cut one of West’s strongest language programs! It is contributing to ableism to diminish access to a communication method used by a disabled population.

We have so many members of our Deaf community that have learned ASL from the efforts of Mrs. Poll! Please please please keep this program in place!

Why are you taking this away from the kids???

ASL is such an important language that needs to be taught! I still use it!

I took 2.5 years of ASL at West High School through Mr. Hare. I learned a great deal of ASL within those years I got good enough to translate and transcribe songs. They should keep language classes because jobs actually pay more if you're bilingual. Even now, my non verbal cousin learned sign language on her own, where she and I had our very first conversation between each other. So yes ASL sign language is very essential language. It would a a big mistake to do so, so it shouldn't never be cut from funding.

This class was such an integral part of my high school experience. I made friends in this class that I still am friends with. I think a community designed to learning a language, and building an environment that is aware of more experiences of those that face difficulties we don’t see very day. ASL isn’t just a language class; it’s a space to recognize our place in the world and to be better accommodated to the needs of others.

Please continue funding this invaluable program.

This is such an important class!

I took Mrs. Polls class for 5 years, retaking ASL 4 my senior year because I enjoyed the class so much and Mrs. Poll was such an incredible influence and teacher. Removing the program would be an insult to the Deaf Community and to the decades Mrs. Poll has devoted to West High.

I love this program at West High! The teacher, the students and community is amazing and it would be ashamed to see it go away!

Keep ASL at West!!!

I have a nephew who communicates mainly through ASL. I believe it is extremely important for schools to teach this beautiful language.

Please don’t get rid of it! It’s important they we still have it!!

Don't remove asl!

ASL IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN CURSIVE !! please help us communicate with those hard of hearing or deaf !
