This is a great program, why deprive our kids of learning this as a 2nd language or other form of communication. People with this chalange are people too.

I went on to get my associates degree in sign language interpreting after graduating from West High. While I am no longer interpreting, I have used the language in so many aspects of my life. I work in foster care now, and had a foster child on my casework who is deaf. Him being able to communicate directly with his caseworker was life changing for him. Sign language is SO important!

I stand with the students and I support your RIGHT to learn. I want quality education for every Utah student, and more so for our underserved populations on the west side of town. Hats off to you ASL pupils, put as much pressure on the admin as possible.

Don't get rid of the ASL program, please! Studying this language has changed my life, enriched my life and others, and opened doors to me that would've otherwise been closed. Don't deprive others from access to this community that many of us will join whether we like it or not.

I am a West High alumni and I took ASL for all 3 year of my language credits. It even advanced me to go to college to earn an interpreting degree. When I was in high school I had a hard time my freshman year learning a spoken verbal language. Since learning a language is part of the curriculum to graduate, I was not sure what to do. As I am a visual and hands on learner, it was suggested to me to take American Sign Language. I excelled extremely well in ASL and was apart of the ASL club becoming President of West High’s Alumni club my Senior year. ASL is a beautiful language and so needed in the world today to bridge the communication gap between the Deaf and hearing world

I took ASL as a student in High School and it made a difference for me. I have a better understanding of the deaf community and it would be detrimental if taken away.

Please keep students engaged!! Thus program connects students with another culture and language. Building essential relationships and understanding for all Americans

I took 2 years asl at west and then had 2 nephews born deaf. Everyone in the world should learn sign language.

At my high school they offered American Sign Language. I was able to take the class for three years and wished I could have done another year!
Whenever I walked into that class I felt peace it was a minute that I could be away from all the noise of the world! The class taught me about a community of people outside my own, it helped me not be selfish & think more about others and how I can be a better citizen in my community! Not only was the class a good environment, but it is a great way to learn! Some students have a hard time learning languages, this language is completely visual, so it is easier to understand and comprehend for students. By taking the class out of the school it is limiting the way’s students can learn. All students should feel welcome and should have a safe environment to cultivate their learning skills and the American Sign Language class provides this! Instead of defunding the ASL program they should be on the search for more languages to add to the selection!
Defunding the ASL program would be defunding our faith in the future generation!

The ASL program at West has always been a wonderful program that the students have loved. Just like any other language, ASL has a place in these students futures. As a former West High teacher, I have seen first hand how much this program has impacted the students. I know that you will be remiss to lose both the ASL program and Mrs. Poll.
