Our kids need classes that keep them learning. This is something they can use for many years and as a career for some.

Lori has built a program to be proud of. As a fellow ASL teacher, I've had the chance to interact with her students when I was helping them prep for the seal of biliteracy. They were well taught, and were clearly prepared. Cutting this program is a loss for future students, and for West High.

Please keep this class. Our students need electives like this that teach them valuable and marketable skills for today's world. Signed, a Salt Lake City School District teacher

This is as important as Spanish, French or German. There are alot of deaf people out there and if you cut this program there will be many students that will miss out on having a conversation with a deaf person. Sad!

We need ASL. Our deaf population is already feeling left out of so much due to the public not knowing this language!!!

I am a sign language interpreter and the whole reason I have my career today is because I took an ASL class in high school.

I was fortunate enough to have ASL as my language credit throughout my four years at West and was even more fortunate enough to be taught that by the very kind and unyieldingly patient Mrs. Poll.

We have witnessed first-hand the positive impact of the ASL program at West High. The program began when our oldest daughter, Emily, who is Deaf, attended West. Our three other daughters took ASL classes. Many youth that we know took ASL classes and served the Deaf community in various capacities after graduation. The program is important for students and for the Deaf communities they serve and interact with.

My cousin who went to west high school took ASL. When my son was born he was deaf. ASL is his primary language and it really helped that someone in the family already knew ASL thanks to This class.
