As a twin sister of a deaf adult, ASL should stay in schools. It is a great way to add to a resume and be apart of a loving community who needs more representation.

ASL teaches more than just a language. It teaches students how to feel safe in their own skin and with who they are! They learn confidence, they learn how to respectfully communicate, they learn how to listen to each other and respectfully respond to different views and cultures, and they learn that their perspective and their way of living is not the only correct way. Our world now more than ever needs to keep these lessons in school. It is also a hands-on, AI and technology off-classroom. Students have to interact.

Communication is necessary to understanding one another and empathizing. Sign language is one of the most universal languages and teaching it is paramount to understanding our own people as well as those in other countries who cannot communicate otherwise. Don't encourage lack of communication among our youth and future leaders by taking away such an important and vital language class.

I was in the first ASL class at West high sparked by our beloved friend Emily Broadbent Tanner, who is Deaf. 32 years later I am an interpreter serving the community she shared with us. Please keep these classes going.

As a student, having asl is very important. I’m involved in the Deaf community and having interpreters for my Deaf friends is important to me. Without interpreters they would have such a hard time in life
