The council are clearly not fit for purpose and haven't been for a number of years, the town is a shell of its former self.

The bund is a sure way to destroy a key part of Dumfries's appeal. The whole river needs looking at, upstream and downstream. What is 'best practice'? It can't be this.

The earth bund is a crazy idea. I went to the meeting in bakers oven and from the off the presentation was one sided, it was the bund or nothing. I'm yet to meet anyone that is in favour of the bund. The recentl floods would have severly damaged any bund. You only have to look upstream to see the damage done to the bunding around the fields To me the rise and fall barrier is the best option. It could be situated down the middle of the sands safeguarding the shops allowing part of the sands to flood. It's time for a more radical approach looking up stream of the Nith, create flood plains to slow the water down, redesign the network of drains and sewage. The views of the river must be retained for eternity.

Please find another solution as this will waste the appearance of a tourist spot in Dumfries. There must be other ways to manage this...maybe spend the money dredging the river bed

If the earth bund is built, people travelling down the Whitesands (locals and tourists) will not see the beautiful view of the river, mill green, deer park and Devorgilla Bridge.
The number of people who actually see this view (arguably Dumfries's greatest asset!) will be reduced to less than 1% of current numbers.
This makes no sense!
A more sensible idea would be to give grants to the businesses who wish to relocate from the Whitesands to other parts of the town, and leave the rest of the millions in the public purse.

It is time for a more radical look at the problem...upstream changes to slow the water down, shop front modifications, non return valves for drains and sewage, dredging, and learn from the experience of other towns successes and failures.Through all this we must retain the views of the river as it is today.

Until the full impact of any proposal on the entire Nith Corridor is explained in full to the public affected Inoppose the proposed development by D&G Council.

Not happy about the river view being blocked, have a shop in the area and need something to be done to prevent flooding but it has to be the right something for the area.

I'd rather leave the Sands to flood than waste money destroying it with an earth bound.

The bund would ruin the view of the river and create an eye sore
