Protect the Whitesands, Dumfries from Council-backed development

The Whitesands area is steeped in history and should be retained as it is, it has been demonstrated that there are other less expensive options, dredging the river should be the first option. This is just another example of D&G Councils consultation process, let us hope they listen this time to the what the people want not what they have been told by outside consultants. Where is all the money going to come from to build this Earth Bund? from you and I, tax paying public. History is our past let's keep some of that history for the future and save the Whitesands.

It's a stupid idea dredge it

I do not want this option to go ahead. I am totally opposed to this scheme and to even consider destroying the Devorgilla Bridge is outrageous. Shame on you all.

I'm not against flood protection but am against the cost of a flood system which is escalating and isn't going to work

Surely a floating wall would be the better option We the majority of Dumfries people do not want the council option earth bund & to even consider taking away a partof the Historic Auld Bridge what are they thinking???? Ridiculous!!!

I am truly opposed to the proposed flood defence scheme refered to as The Whitesands Redevelopment Project. I believe it will cause further environmental detriment with loss of habitat to wildlife. It will exasperate further problems with flooding in areas both up and down river and across the other side of the river. I do not think an ancient monument such as the as The Devorgilla Bridge should be altered in such an unsightly way. SEPA have said there is still no guarantee as the Whitesands is a natural floodplain that the proposed defence scheme will prevent flooding. The fact remains there is no offer of compensation to local businesses and the loss of car parking will destroy the heart of the town. Rising projected costs for the project are without question another cause for concern. If this scheme goes ahead the socio - economic and environmental impacts will remain a concern for many future generations.

Please don't spoil the Whitesands.

I really really don't want the proposed bund to go ahead. It's sacrilege to our devorgilla bridge. It will cause a loss or parking and the cost is ridiculous. I want to drive up the whitesAnds and see our river as I do today. Stop this development now before another disaster.

The council has spent enough money that would re route the river through Crocketford Why dont they listen Its our money you lot are wasting ( No harm intended to Crocketford its because its 9 miles from Dumfries and the cost is comparable to the overall spend )
