When I lived in Dumfries 1939 -1951 I THINK the Nith was dredged from time to time. This had the correct effect of controlling the flodding on the Whitesands and lower Vennel. Why is it not being tried nowadays???

The Council is there to listen to the towns people, another example of them abusing their position by not doing this

Instead of representing them, the Council is showing blatant disregard and disrespect to the wishes of those who elected them and to the town.

The arrogance of this council beggars belief. What will it take for them to listen to public opinion? Have they not made enough mistakes already by ignoring us? The bund is not the answer!

why would you do such a daft thing. Dumfries has already lost so much with the centre of the town being nothing but a ghost town. Keep the beauty of The Sands.

i fail to see how this is a solution when it only moves the problem down from the whitesands. It will still burst it's banks, further down river. or on the opposing bank. It would seem a better idea to implement a range of measures that include, dredging, improving drainage to cope with run off over a larger area, and perhaps diverting water by opening flood plains/ increasing vegetation further upstream.

There aren't many beauty spots in Dumfries but at least one can enjoy the river view. Please put quality of life before economic considerations.

We need further consultation to look at how other areas have overcome flooding problems

This will not cure the flooding on Whitesands and anyone touching this bridge other than to maintain it should be sent to prison.
