We are concerned about NSW government departments and institutions changing policies to remove sex-specific spaces and services. This is taking place where ‘gender identity’ is replacing ‘sex’ as the dominant category to organise society.
Replacing ‘sex’ with ‘gender identity’ undermines safeguarding principles. Safeguarding controls the risk of harm to women and children. Statistically, the risk of harm to women and children is from the opposite sex (men). Sex-specific spaces like changing rooms, domestic violence shelters, rape crisis centres, prisons, hospital wards, sports teams, school and public toilets, and sex-specific intimate personal and health care (including, among others, disability and aged care) protect the safety and dignity of women and children. Sex segregation where women are vulnerable promotes their inclusion in society. Some women self-exclude from public facilities and services that may compromise their safety or dignity, reducing opportunities to enjoy full and healthy lives.
Protecting ‘gender identity’ over ‘sex’ also significantly impacts lesbians and gay men, extinguishing rights to associate based on ‘sex’, considering sexual orientation is sex-based, not gender-based.
Erasing ‘sex’ and associated protections does not mean equality for all.
We seek to allow all people of NSW continued access to select sex-specific spaces and services for their safety and dignity. This petition asks the NSW Legislative Assembly to call on the government to protect the sex-based rights of people in NSW by introducing an Act and/or amendment that unambiguously declares ‘sex’ to be a protected category in NSW.

The NSW Parliament is ignoring us while they dismantle the protections that keep women and girls safe. We need to hit that hundred signature mark immediately to force the politicians in power to finally pay attention.

I'm concerned about self ID laws. If anyone can say they're a woman then predators will claim that to gain access to women's toilets, prisons, changerooms, crisis accommodation etc. Defining womanhood as female sex is the only way to keep these basic safeguards in place.
Self ID is obviously nonsense - you just have to look at Victoria's police force flapping about trying to stop people claiming to be non-binary for the extra clothing allowance to see that is it administratively and logically incoherent.
There is no evidence in Australia or globally to show that anyone is safer or more respected or valued when 'sex' is replaced by 'gender'. There is a great deal of evidence to show that women's and children's rights and safety are eroded when gender replaces sex.
We lost our sex-based protections in QLD at the hands of our own Minister for Women. We will not forgive or forget. Signing in solidarity with women in NSW and in the hope that reason will prevail in this country.
As a nurse/midwife i am already working with the situation of being forced to lie to patients about the sex of their hospital carers and room mates - if I don't lie I will lose my job, if I do lie i may find myself losing my nursing registration for 'unethical conduct'.
I'm concerned about the removal of sex-specific spaces!
As a woman I have the right to safety, free from mentally ill men.

The whole point of spaces being designated for women in the first place, was in recognition that we needed such spaces (and btw they had to be fought for). Allowing a male to claim they are a woman and gain access to these spaces, undermines the entire reason they were created.
