Protect the Rappahannock River oppose Dominion Power's new transmission line

I oppose Dominion Power building new transmission lines along the Rappahanock River.

The community should have been discussing this openly and has not had adequate time or information this vote should not take place before 1 November at the soonest.... Voting during the summer vacation period is on its face wrong. Bury the cables. Duh.

VEPCO is preparing to bury the power line to my home to increase service and save costs. There is no direct cost to me. Bury the proposed power lines underwater across the Rappahannock River.

Wrong place, wrong time, wrong reasoning. Bad idea proposed by an entity enjoying no apparent oversight. Please deny, VMRC.

Three points: 1) a Dominion representative told me it would cost $100 MILLION to bury a cable across the Rappahannock. Recent experience in San Francisco is $9.4 M / mile. Transmission overhead costs $1 to $4M per mile. All costs are recovered through small rate increases. 2) Reviewing all documentation provided to VMRC, the proposed Line 65 re-build will have a total footprint & encroachment of 3,092 sq ft. About exactly the same as a submerged 115Kv cable. 3). This re-built runs contrary to Dominion's plans to bury 4,000 miles of power lines over then next 10-12 years. The impact to Virginia's river bottom is almost the same - let's remove the eye-sore.

For 50 + years they have been using the bridge structure to carry power lines, this is the twenty first century come up with a better way to continue to use the bridge. Use the money Dominion would save building and maintaining the towers to help pay for painting the bridge. Better yet bury the cables, leave this beautiful river intact and help prevent boating accidents.

There has to be another way. Let's figure it out.

Find somewhere else to place these poles.

I come back to my hometown several times a year and drive this bridge almost every day when I do. My mother's back yard overlooks the bridge. It is one of the most beautiful spots along the coast of Virginia for tourists and locals alike - please do not wreck it with bigger transmission towers and lines.

Put the cable under water. It's worth the initial higher cost in safety from these violent storms and preserves the vista. I boat there often and its safer to not complicate the obstacles to avoid. I think the whole US grid should be put underground for safety and reliability. Joel Dugan, resident of the NN.

Put them underwater. This is a gorgeous vista viewed from the east or west. Help us preserve the view. Pleas don't take the easy way.

Opposed this idea running power lines over the Rappahannock River this way. Underwater would be the way to go.
