Having a dedicated DIT on set is invaluable. Once captured, the raw footage is the most important thing you have. Why entrust this with someone whose attention is split among other duties, at best, or at worst with someone who has no idea what they're doing?

non union here. this is really upsetting. Ive watched my DIT friends slowly but surely lose their job security. The DIT is an integral part of any film set that ive been on being the intermediary between tech junkies and non. the knowledge on how to troubleshoot on set issues falls on their lap and I for one know movie sets will suffer tremendously time wise and technical knowledge wise.

The DIT position is extremely important in the industry. If you want a quality product, you need a qualified technician to maintain the best possible results.

This is a very worthwhile cause for the camera department and IATSE. There needs to be some added value to the initiation and dues we pay.

As a former DIT and as currently an Editor, this position is invaluable to on-set operations as well as post. It can't just be delegated to another position, it needs it's own place.

As a Post Supervisor, I know the importance of having a dedicated DIT in the field to do this job. If done incorrectly, it can have serious consequences on the whole workflow, and affect conform down the line. Its a cheap save in production that can end up costing more in the long run.

If we give up our hold on a rostered position, it will only give leverage for getting rid of positions in the future with Local 600 and possibly other union positions. In order to protect everyone's future we need to stand strong together on this.

I've seen jobs with no DIT many times. It hurts both production and post
