DIT's are very important to makeup artists job. They give us an idea of what the look of the film or TV show will be. I fully support keeping the DIT position in Local 600

Disrupting the workflow and personel by shooting without a DIT compromises the product.

i feel that although a digital production can get by without a DIT, it can be so important to have one. DITs can help the director and DP understand what they are getting from the camera and as onset color becomes more and more prevalent, it becomes essential to have a DIT. In addition a DIT can actually save a production thousands in post production costs by completing much of the work like colored, sound-synced dailies on the day of the shoot.

Smart workflow makes for fast, efficient production and post. It is the DIT that is at the heart of the development and implementation of all things workflow.

With the addition of being able to produce on line dailies it enables productions to save money to go along with enabling the DP to turn in a superior product for dailies which every producer sees long before the color timed final.

The DIT is a valuable asset to the camera dept. as insurance against catastrophic image loss, preservation of the DP's original intent, and a cost effective entity providing optimum and efficient digital workflow functioning.

DIT's are an essential member of our department. They save time and money during the course of the production day. They are a necessity, not a luxury.
