A producer that doesn't hire a DIT is not a real producer. Image quality control aside, I can't tell you how many tens of thousands of dollars I've saved productions by catching technical errors in the camera and lighting dept. Sometimes the DIT is the only one who notices a shoddy balaste causing flicker on hgh speed shots. A real producer will also hire a DIT because a real producer understands the value data integrity. I've recovered HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars worth of footage for producers who were too cheap to hire a DIT, or even a simple data manager for their shoot. Part of the issue DITs face is that we're often mistaken for data managers. While almost ALL of my DIT jobs involve data management, NO DATA MANAGER JOB INVOLVES ON SET COLOR GRADING, TRANSCODING OR LIGHT IRON SERVER SETUP

Fight the good fight. Please protect the DIT position as it is a very valuable and skilled craft that should not be passed off on other camera department personnel

Anybody who tries to shoot without a D.I.T. won't understand the terrible potential risks to their data. Hiring a good DIT is the cheapest insurance you can have on the set.

I am PROUD to say I have NEVER done a job without a DIT. First question I ask. I have also declined jobs who said they didn't have one.

The DIT monitor is invaluable to costume designers and costumers. We rely on it to get accurate visuals on how the costumes appear on screen. It is way more accurate than other video village monitors and crucial in helping me to do my job properly. Please do not do away with the DIT operators!

a valuable position on set that needs union representation to ensure quality of people who apply for such an important position.

This is an important position that also helps out other depts, such as the sound dept, in different ways, and should be protected, much like the video playback, and sound playback positions.

We already more or less lost the loader position, we can't also now loose the Dit leaving all the workload to the 2nd AC. Unfair and inefficient. The camera dpt can't be tan by two people. Overtime is never cheaper than crewing up
