DITS do so much important work and solve a Marriott of problems with sunset. DIT is actually save production so much money. It’s a little misunderstood, but a production will actually save a lot of money by having a DIT to prep and work on site

I just lost a 25-day job because production invalidated our position. I fought hard about the benefits of having a qualified technician on set but it fell on deaf ears. It all came down to money and having pre-determined LUTs on hand created by light iron that could be toggled on set by someone else. Now I am unemployed and I have a family that I provide for. Please support our role on set and help strengthen our union.

Just wrapped a network show with no DIT, 95% of reshoots could have been avoided by having a DIT, let alone the hours saved in post.

The position of DIT is a crucial position within the camera pipeline, and eliminating it in favor of automated software is only asking for further difficulties in post production. A production that has been properly organized and offloaded by a DIT tends to go smoothly through all aspects of post production, saving productions money and time. The position of DIT is a sophisticated and crucial role in any production, and its mishandling can cost the productions additional budget and time.

it is simply not appropriate to ask other departments to teakettle place of union positions. you wouldn't ask camera to help with props in their spare time as a cost-cutting measure.
