Sand mining is not only a threat to winemaking in the area. More significantly it contributes to the further degeneration of the land. 'Rehabilitation' is also a faint promise that is rarely enforced and takes generations to fulfil.

As a resident of the Swartland I am totally against the Paardeberg being mined. Surely to god ENOUGH IS ENOUGH...so much greed and not enough compassion for our land, sea and animals. I urge the powers that be to reconsider their decision. Let us stand together and preserve the beauty we are privileged to see daily.

All too often important biodiversity is being compromised to feed the insatiable " development" monster. Some areas have to be set aside and not trashed. It's not a case of do not develop, but where and how it takes place. Mining is currently a runaway disaster for the environment of SA. The mining companies are not living up to their end of safe environmental practice.
