You cannot change history by destroying statues, these people helped build the UK, which we benefit by.

People are taking to the streets to deface and degrade our monuments and cenataph, I will take to the streets to protect them. This has to stop!

History is history. We shouldnt try and change is as its our heritage

Judging the people of the past by today's sensibilities is moronic. Don't tear down elegant statues to appease a mob.

We are a proud city and much so of our past. This is history and should be left alone.

Absolutely disgusting what is happening, people jumping on the band wagon to riot and loot. George Floyd has been made out to be a hero when in fact he was a criminal it was terrible how he died but let's remember Lee Rigby and how he was attacked and killed.

We in Sunderland value our historical monuments and our street names we do not take kindly to the cities assets being put on to some Draconian far left vandalism hit list. Thank you for your consideration in regard to this matter.

Please protect these monuments, they represent our heritage and whether good or bad they should not be forgotten.

I am signing this petition as I totally agree to keep our historical monuments it gives the young of sunderland an insight of how the city came to be and who shaped it

We cannot change history and we cannot continue to enrage BAME folk into the future. If Monuments in Sunderland area edify persons who made significant funds from slavery; even though they may have spent this black money to bolster their image in the area, now is the time, post George Floyd death, to consign those particular Monuments into Sunderland Museum ... To be less prominent but not forgotten. It is enraging to BAME folk to be looked down upon by these history makers of old. This is unacceptable in the 21st. century, IMHO. #BLM #Icannotbreathe
