This open air farmers market is a landmark in Salem...it's one of many reasons our small city feels like an old fashioned Main St community. Our family is begging this not to be taken away in any capacity and to be left as it is...a great place for local farmers and craftsmen to sell their products, a place we can gather and enjoy community events like Salem After Five with our neighbors and socialize and also to all benefit from seeing the Town's
Christmas Tree lit up though the holidays. We LOVE the sketches that have been drawn showing how we can not only improve on the Farms Market as it is now but also incorporate more of the less functional area between the market and the City Building on Broad St! We would LOVE to see something like that one from all of this...that area would be a destination and make our downtown stand out like none other in this area!

Our City Council should have been more transparent with the citizens of Salem in its plans for the Downtown Farmers Market area. The Farmers Market is a historical piece of property unique to Downtown it's use should be decided by the citizens of Salem not City Council.

Many people enjoy the open air feel to the market! It's a way to support our local farmers as well as buying fresh produce & other fresh products.

My husband and I were sad when it was suggested that the Salem Farmer's Market might be sold for development. It is a wonderful place to go in the summer for fresh vegetables. They are always better than what we can get in a store. Traveling to the Roanoke City Market while it seems a good alternative is a long way to go for fresh vegetables. Too bad Salem doesn't value it's Market the way Roanoke does it's Market.

I work down the street from the market and enjoy the farmers market, music events and holiday events that happen there. We get so much business from these events and also it helps bring patrons to other businesses. The parking will be impacted by losing this area in town much more than what is there now. Please leave this long standing and well loved area alone!

While the world is rapidly changing around us, things slipping through the cracks that we cannot control -- can't we keep our sweet, old-fashioned town the way it is?

Why ruin a good thing? If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Save what we have and allow our community to have something unique and family friendly. Also, saving that beautiful tree!!!!
