The provision of private swimming lessons at Down Leisure Centre must be protected. The contribution made to both mental and physical health and wellbeing by this facility cannot and should not be underestimated. It is imperative that the Council's Committe for Active & Healthy Communities votes to retain the private swimming lessons on 20th April.

It's disgraceful that I'm having to sign this petition as there were no council lessons available when we were looking for our son to learn to swim. The lessons provided by Little Flippers are fantastic, cheaper than one on one classes, provide good social skills and boundaries, help children interact and Elaine, the swimming coach, is fantastic with the kids. Children's safety should always be paramount.

It's disgraceful that I'm having to sign this petition as there were no council lessons available when we were looking for our son to learn to swim. The lessons provided by Little Flippers are fantastic, cheaper than one on one classes, provide good social skills and boundaries, help children interact and Elaine, the swimming coach, is fantastic with the kids. Children's safety should always be paramount.

I am disappointed to hear about this decision, when we were looking for lessons for our eldest, it was only a private tutor who was available. Since then James has made good progress; without a private tutor James would still be unable to swim. We have another 2 children who need to learn to swim and I would hope that they will also be able to be taught by Little Flippers as we have confidence in Elaine's teaching. I'm especially surprised at the decision following recent media coverage of the low number of children able to swim in the UK!

My two children have been attending private lessons for two years. To begin with my daughter was afraid to go into the water. She now can swim lengths and dive. She no longer has a fear of water. My son finds it difficult to concentrate in a group situation. He has benifited greatly from being taught in a one to one situation. He can swim 16 lengths and dive. I feel it is a parents personal choice if they want to pay for their child to be taught privately. By stopping these lessons, you are leaving instructors without a job and business. Why???
