Immensely proud of this family's stance in support of freedom of speech. Walton HS has a variety of serious issues when it comes to how they treat the student community. As another commenter pointed out, they are totally grade oriented and not in the service of students. The administration should take a serious look at its ineffective policies. And it is time for the Principal Ms. McNeil to be let go. The buck stops at the top and it is time for a change.

This brave girl and her mother need our support for standing up and out! As a local civil rights activist, I, together with others, will make sure this is a learning moment for this School District, which we have already been meeting with over this very issue---free speech and first amendment rights of students. Thank you for your courage!

This is unbelievable. That shirt and wording does not promote hate or incite violence... It's one person expressing their disappointment with the approval of values that our president-eject espouses.

Freedom of speech is what makes this country great. What a shame that there are administrators who don't value such a basic right.

The Walton High School administration is historically a bunch of bigots. They also contested the forming of the Gay Straight Alliance several years ago.

Walton high need to have higher standards than this as one of the leading high schools in the state. Shame on the school officials for this injustice to the girl. You owe her an apology in public.

This is awful. No school should do this, our state, Georgia, is a great state and I am ashamed of what this school has been allowed to get away with!!

Shame on you Walton. Not that I'm surprised. The same thing happened to me as a former student there, except back then it was over religious beliefs. I am pagan and our ignorant principal at the time thought that meant I was a satanist. He made me prove that I was not and explain my religion to him ...

I graduated from Walton last year, and I'm not surprised this happened. This is horrible.
