Virginia paving should follow the rules of the SUP when it was granted. Virginia paving agreed to end operations in 2027 in order to receive the SUP. They should not back out of a deal that they agreed to.

Please accept this message expressing my strong support for ENDING operations at the Virginia Paving Plant on January 1, 2027.
As a Cameron Station resident, I have witnessed firsthand the impact that the plant has had on our community. While I recognize the important role the facility has played over the years, I believe the time has come to follow through with the planned closure and transition.

Five years is Special Use, and plenty of time to make other arrangements no matter what business you’re in. Adding five years would say my city’s not serious about its plans, our health, and the (taxable!) opportunities Virginia Paving is sitting on.
Times change and Virginia Paving’s location must change with them.

This is flat out stupid. They’ve had plenty of time to comply, all the while putting out emissions that put small children (as well as the rest of us) at risk.
They need to comply in the timely fashion as previously ordered.

I cannot believe that this type of company is allowed to coexist within an ever-growing residential community. How could the City of Alexandria permit this? Kids with allergies and asthma that is exacerbated by the operations of this company has gone on for years and yet the city increases property taxes in Cameron Station and other communities around the area.

As the parent of two children who attend Samuel Tucker Elementary, I am concerned about the growing impact of industrial activity on our community. Our children are exposed to noise from the APD outdoor firing range, while families deal with pollution from nearby paving operations and persistent odors from waste and recycling facilities.
I ask City Council to consider whether these conditions would be acceptable in other Alexandria neighborhoods, such as Del Ray. Every family deserves clean air.

My daughter goes to school at Samuel Tucker and the asphalt plant produces foul air with carcinogens right next to the school. Our children should not be subjected to this.

I am concerned about air quality and the toxins we breath. My husband passed away from cancer a year ago and I battled cancer six years ago. Breathing harmful toxins emitted by Virginia Paving cannot help and may even increase cancer rates. Please honor the sunset provision to require Virginia Paving to cease all operations at this location in January of 2027. City officials must make it a priority to collaborate on a vacate/relocation plan for this facility to ensure a healthy community.
