Protect Our Green Belt - Holmeswood Park / Townsend Fold / New Hall Hey

Please reconsider. We need green areas for wildlife, walkers etc. Green spaces have kept us all sane during the Covid pandemic, being able to walk and enjoy nature. Increased traffic will not help us meet our climate targets. Let’s keep Rossendale an area of natural beauty!

We live on New Hall Hey and use it all the time. This area is used by so many people who live in Rossendale but also those who don’t live in Rossendale as it’s part of many walks. It is also one of the more accessible parts of outdoor areas rather where you don’t have to trek up a hill.

In 1993 I had to move from my house in Salford and I chose to come and live in Rawtenstall and to this estate because of the lovely countryside that was in the immediate area. We had a four year old son and a dog at time and many, many hours were spent happily walking by the river with them and with my two other sons and their children. I now have another grandchild born only three days ago, they also chose to live in Rawtenstall, and we have talked about enjoying the same walks with them. I am astounded that this area is not already protected and sincerely hope that it will be soon.

I regularly walk my dog on this land and picnicked here with my kids when they were younger. Such a shame for the locals to lose it

Leave for the wildlife, god help rossendale

Green land is slowly being eaten away, which in turn is driving out all the valleys natural wildlife.

Keep it green.

Let's not build everywhere 'eh? Wildlife needs open spaces, not to mention homo sapiens for mental health... There are industrial areas much better suited. Mayfield Chicks old site Ewood Bridge? The football ground at Ewood Bridge? Road access brilliant at both those sites.

This is a disgrace there is plenty of Brown Land that can be built on.

So much wildlife will be lost if this happens. Stop replacing trees and grass with concrete, this isn't New York.

Full of wildlife! Needs to be left alone.

Disgusting this should be a protected area. It’s invaluable for the local people for exercising and peoples mental health

I use this area daily for dog walking. My children use it at weekends for riding their bikes and exploring the river..there is extensive wildlife in this area, including herons and others

These proposed changes would ruin the views from the trains on the East Lancashire Railway.

We would lose a beautiful area of land and introduce a vast amount of traffic to the area.

In the light of the loss of a large swathe of green belt land in neighbouring Edenfield, this area is even more important to the local community. There is plenty of commercial and industrial land available nearby with much better access to the road system.

We are killing wildlife by destroying their homes to home people. We should be making every effort to protect these areas
