Let's be real..real organic crops need real organic soil to be grown in...not hydroponic grown. Do you think we are idiots? God provided it best with all we need to grow and nourish crops..in SOIL.

To folks at the USDA:
Do NOT consider plants grown hydroponically organic unless that is their naturally occurring growing medium. Water lilies grow in water naturally. Tomatoes and blueberries DO NOT. Stop CAVING to big business which cares only about profit, not product honesty or quality. Protect US, the average American consumer, and educate us rather than see how much you can mislead us You will fool most people. LEAD the way by telling the truth about how food must be grown to be considered organic, rather than following the corporate propaganda.

Sure people can live on chemicals and GMOs (all for profit) for a period of time, but the cost to human health will be a larger and larger budget for treating disease.

This is NOT "organic" since it uses chemicals to make the fertilizers being used. Hydroponics is NOT "Organic" so should NOT be labeled as such!

It is essential for "organic" to mean grown in soil, where plants take up nutrients and form them into bio-available nutrition by a process of accumulation - accumulating the particular macro and micro nutrients that particular plant requires at a particular time, in order to develop into a truly healthy plant brimming with nutrition essential for animal health, including human.

As a certified permaculture designer and former president of the board of NOFA-NJ, I have witnessed the slow dilution and denigration of the true meaning of organic by BIG business and the USDA. So glad to support the Real Organic Project.

If you are going to continue to allow hydroponic food be labeled organic, you must also require the label to state that it has been grown hydroponically. Otherwise consumers have zero information to choose food. According to the Organic Food Production Act, organic farmers have to improve the soil that their crops are grown in. That cannot happen in hydroponics!

Factory farming methods without the use of soil demean organics. I want real food grown in soil and without use of chemicals.
