Protect Lansing's Gardens and Pollinators

I 100% support this and have wanted to do something similar myself!

Outdated ordinances that restrict gardens do not reflect what our communities and ecosystems need today. Thoughtfully planted gardens support pollinators, improve biodiversity, reduce runoff, and create healthier, more resilient neighborhoods. In a time when bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects are under increasing pressure, we should be protecting and encouraging pollinator-friendly landscapes, not penalizing them. It is time for local policies to evolve and support environmentally responsible gardening practices that benefit both people and nature.

These regulations are antiquated and out-of-touch with modern gardening practices. Please revise immediately WITH input from the community

The city's ordinances are outdated and based on subjective aesthetics rather than current information and best practices for things like native flora and pollinators. This is unacceptable.

We need to think progressively about the future of biodiversity. Let's update these ordinances to welcome our pollinator allies.

Beautiful and interesting gardens make the city a more inviting place for everyone.

Environmentally friendly and beautiful! Grass lawns are an outdated concept and harmful.

The city paid for the flowers residents to plant along the curbs over 20 years ago and the many flowers in the front yards of out neighborhood make it beautiful to walk through our neighborhood and brings our neighbors together to trade flowers and be better neighbors. Mandating grass in the front yard is far outdated and would ruin our beautiful neighborhood.

These flower beds benefit the environment.

Traditional lawns are so ugly and outdated. Gardens such as this promote biological diversity and improve drainage… something lansing surely needs to be concerned about. I’d recommend speaking with MSU staff to better understand why this petition has been created.

A well-tended flower garden street side is more appealing and ecologically sound than grass (or weeds).

Native plants are the best use of lawn space... they are beautiful, require less wasteful use of water, and support important pollinators. Our environment needs this sort of growth. They don't require dangerous chemicals to keep them beautiful. Restrictions against them are archaic and should be removed.

I love seeing the front yard gardens. It feels more homey, comforting, and just enjoyable. Plus why would be want that less food away from bees that we need!

Let us landscape our yards with personality. This isn't a condo association with Karen as president. We pay high taxes for poor return, let us enjoy our own homes and yards

It's about time the city wakes up and recognizes grass it not environmentally friendly and pollinator gardens should be encouraged as long as they do not interfere with nightlines for drivers.
