Protect “Good Medical Practice” in Australia: safeguard the Medical Board Code of Conduct.

Doctors must be allowed to exercise their freedom of choice according to their own conscience and not according to some dictate from those who would impose their beliefs that human life is disposable .

Why is this proposal NOT public knowledge? Why is it NOT being debated in the public arena & in the public interest ?

The proposed amendment of the Code of Conducts is a blatant violation of the freedoms doctors are entitled to while carrying out their jobs.

I do not accept that the proposed changes are for the medical good of all Australians.

Free speech is as important for doctors as for anyone else, and our professional opinion should not be stymied. Also the right of doctors to conscientiously object to certain practices is vital to allow us to comply with our personal ethics and beliefs.

Good medical practice demands that doctors have freedom of conscience and decision making and not punishment by a minority public who want to restrict doctors by passing new law on cultural grounds!

The proposals claim that only the patient or patient’s family can determine “culturally” what medical care is appropriate, endangering decision-making that is properly informed by doctors. They dictate what is considered “medically irrelevant”, such that doctors may face removal of their Medical Board registration if they do not comply with the Board, and with what patients’ families demand - no matter what they demand. This would be extremely dangerous for doctors on issues of conscience, for patients who cannot voice themselves whilst sick, and for medically informed decision-making that is a bedrock of good medical practice.

I agree with Protect "Good Medical Practice" in Australia: safeguard the Medical Board Code of Conduct document of 1st August 2018. I do not agree with the proposed Code of Conduct.

As a medical practitioner, I value my right to practice and do good for my patients within the ethical bounds set by my moral values and conscience.

Doctors should be free to discuss and advise patients on all medical matters These proposed changes would deny doctors freedom of conscience.

I strongly oppose the revised code which will restrict and punish doctors who want to express professional views according to their good conscience in good faith. This approach of the medical board does more harm to the common good of patients.

Doctors should have a choice too! (And nurses should have a choice too - I have a friend who is wanting to leave nursing because of the euthanasia laws)

Freedom of speech and conscience needs to be preserved for a country to remain highly civilized.

I believe doctors should be free to practice medicine based on accepted science, and that 'respecting other's cultural choices" does dot equate to agreeing with them. Nor should it be used to remove doctor's (or anyone's) right to express a contrary opinion in a discussion forum. Disagreement does not mean hate or lack of respect. Doctors are the ones best equipped to advise on medical matters and must be allowed to do this on the basis of fact, unfettered by the cultural preferences of particular individuals.

Doctors should have the right to give advice to the best of their knowledge without the government interference

How ridiculous is this?! Doctors study medicine for a reason!!! They know far better than tom dick or harry!!

I am appalled at the attitude of so many departments of government that want to tie up everyone on a one track mind set without cause or meaning for individuals, groups and organisations committed to serve this nation to the best of their ability. Doctors, for example, are often called to make decisions in desperate circumstances, are constantly assessing the health benefits of a patient, and caring for the hardest cases. challenging them to consider if the patient wants to hear the suggestions or not is second to saving the person's life with good health outcomes. It is not about feelings, but about cures. Give the doctors space to say what needs to be said. They are kind and caring in most cases and dedicated to healing. don't make it harder or impossible to concentrate on the work they do.

First do no harm. This is not something we can do away with.
