Protect “Good Medical Practice” in Australia: safeguard the Medical Board Code of Conduct.

People making decisions without all the facts may make decisions harmful to themselves and others. Even disagreeable facts need to be revealed. "Appropriate" or not, the truth is never irrelevant.

We should obey the Laws in Gods Word

It is an outrageous proposal. Some doctors would be forced to live a lie if they acted against their conscience, give up medical practice, or disobey the ruling and risk penalties. If this ruling goes through, it will do a lot of damage to the practise of good medicine in Australia. I couldn't be more opposed.

Doctors must never be forced to go against their consciences, or what they believe is the best medical practice in the situation.

There should be no change to the Code of Conduct

Freedom of speech and bebliefs are basic human rights, should not be removed.

An outrageous intrusion on free speech of doctors

I object the proposed changes to the Medical Board of Australia's existing Code of Conduct.

Doctors have a right to a personal opinion and a right to voice that opinion either verbally or in writing in any forum. Patients are free to see second opinions on any subject but how are they going to be well-informed about options if their doctors are gagged by not being able to express what they feel may be an alternative view. I really love my doctor and enjoy hearing his views so I can make a decision on my treatment. We don't always agree but I like to hear his opinion nonetheless.

People in all walks of life have the same right to free speech. Doctors shouldn’t be prejudiced and striped their rights for free speech. Their conduct has already been monitored by their professional code of ethics.

This proposal is interfering with a doctor’s right to practice as he was trained to do. Drs are private businesses, this onterference from the AMA is not necessary. How about being more helpful to the Doctors and not obstructive. We need more not fewer!!!This is ruining a good profession and it will lose credibility. Furthermore, if a parent requesteda culturally accepted FGM and the doctor refused sayong it was unnecessary and dangerous, would the doctor then be deregistered? Likewise with sex changes and abortions, surely the doctor has the right to refuse deeming the proceedures unnecessary and dangerous?

Does this mean that there is no freedom of speech in the medical profession?

Good honest medical practice must come first and foremost. Therefore the proposed changes to the Code of Conduct must be rejected.

Please do not apply the political correctness above logic. This is senseless.

Freedom of conscience and freedom of speech are basic human rights and must be protected.

One must always be able to trust a Doctor to do what is right in either seeking to prolong life if that is possible or to provide palliative care if not and not be compelled by relatives to do otherwise. However in regard to switching off life support relatives must be consulted.

Doctors should be able to follow the Hippocratic Oath : do no harm. It is vital that patients trust their doctors and it is vital that doctors practise with freedom of speech and conscience ; they or their patients should not be coerced by bureaucrats to follow treatments against their wishes or which violate the dictates of their conscience. There has been NO PUBLIC DEBATE ON THIS: that is deplorable and totalitarian.

This is very concerning that the medical profession is considering these changes

Doctors are highly intelligent and highly trained and should not be controlled by bureaucrats. I thought we were a free country. If you don't like your doctor or his views, go to another one. Why can't I choose a Christian doctor who is against abortion if that is my wish or one who is opposed to euthanasia if I believe there is only one person who determines when we die - God.
