Protect “Good Medical Practice” in Australia: safeguard the Medical Board Code of Conduct.

By people being free to air their personal views, people are more free to choose health practitioners with whom they share values.

I believe every person, especially doctors who are dealing with life and death issues all the time should have their free will rights guaranteed so as they never are forced to do anything contrary to what they believe their hippocratic oath says, or what their conscience tells them. This is a terrible proposal.

Freedom of speech is a human right in this country. If we can't have freedom of speech, who is pulling the strings and where will this ultimately lead. Freedom at all cost!

What happened to freedom of conscience?

Please dont allow untrained people to dictate what medical professionals must do. There should be consultations with families around possible avenues of treatment but never forcing a doctor to do something that they know to be inappropriate.

This draft code limits free speech. It goes against the very base of scientific method in which hypotheses are formulated, argued and tested. It’s undemocratic. Contrary to the suggestion by AHPRA that ‘community trust’ will be ensured by limitation of comment, it could be argued ‘community trust’ will be reduced by the knowledge that the medical profession will only speak with one voice because of the silencing power of AHPRA. How can any group, AHPRA included, possibly think they know what is the generally accepted views’ on any particular subject? What about the vocal minority versus silent majority?

Why is it that freedom of speech is only available to those who are anti morality?

Our doctors have enough stress in their professional lives without adding extra worries of cultural practices & other wrong thinking seeping into their daily patient conversations. We must not allow the inappropriate self-centred beliefs & values of some of our society to overtake what is just & true.

The proposed changes should not be accepted as they are inconsistent with good medical practice.

What about Hypocrites oath ? Doctors are essentially healers not killers. Absurd to force professional decent people to do what backyard anybody’s.

We as a society would suffer from a great loss of doctors apart from the immorality of such a very bad revision of the Code.

The Medical Board of Australia’s new draft code seeks to control what doctors say in the public arena by stifling their right to publicly express both personal and professional opinions. To give the board this type of power through the proposed revised code of conduct will embolden the Board’s anti-free speech disposition. The new draft code clearly undermines doctors’ contribution to the diversity of public opinion, debate, and discourse. Doctors must be free to engage in contentious political debates. The proposed changes should not be accepted as they are inconsistent with sound medical practice.

when will the lies end? The people we trust to look after us, are just money making machines...disgusting!

I am horrified that Doctors might not be allowed to treat patients with the care they take an oath to do. Also that their right to their opinion might be taken from them. That is Communism

These proposed changes show a complete disregard for the basic rights that should be ensured in a democratic country.

Proposed changes to the Code of Conduct. The proposed changes are worrying. A vital standard for medical practice would be removed if patients or families stopped doctors from discussing what is medically relevant to their care, based on not considering such medical discussion “culturally safe”. They also would endanger patients when they are too ill to make their own decisions, by setting up families to determine what is appropriate “culturally” whilst dismissing any requirement for informed discussion about medical risks. By dictating to doctors what is considered "medically irrelevant" in consultations, the proposed changes threaten doctors’ ability to exercise independent clinical judgment and freedom of conscience. I have already lost my trust in the medical profession considering their breaking of the Hippocratic Oath with abortion, and promotion of dangerous vaccines when we don't need them. I would like you to reconsider these changes to the Code of Conduct.
