The Youth Climate Council Ghana (YCC) strongly opposes Parliament’s proposal to use carbon credit revenues for an MP pension fund. This move misdirects crucial climate finance away from sustainability efforts, undermining Ghana’s commitments under the Paris Agreement. Carbon credit revenues must be used for climate action, not personal benefits.
We call on the Government of Ghana, Parliament, and relevant authorities to:
- Immediately withdraw the proposal to use carbon credit revenues for an MP pension fund.
- Ensure that all climate finance, including carbon credit revenues is strictly allocated to climate mitigation and adaptation projects.
- Uphold Ghana’s international climate commitments by prioritizing sustainable development and environmental resilience.
We are calling on persons aged 18 - 35 to sign this petition to protect Ghana’s climate future and demand accountability in the use of climate funds!

I disagree We need to do the needful to save our planet for the future generations to meet their needs and wants. And also a better GHANA. I’m Prince ODONKOR TETTEY from the university of Energy and Natural Resources and I did climate change and sustainable development as my program of study.
Ghana is a country with higher risk in relation to climate crisis due to our low adaptability and financially lacking the resources. Therefore we must intentionally secure our now and future through resilience and appropriateness of our resources and donations received.
It is a misplaced priority to divert the climate fund to an area where the individuals involved can properly plan their pension or retirement days. They have all the resource to do that. Climate change is real and we can't deny its impact in Ghana and Africa.
It is outrageous and greedy that our legislators who are already paid well and have better access to money will decide to use funds meant to tackle the environment as theor nest egg. I join this alliance to reject,repudiated and call for corrective action against this decision
This is so wrong, Carbon Reserves are meant to address environmental issues and help in reversing the effects of Climate Change not to be used as a basis for someone's retirement policy!
