Human decency should apply but I've had two cats rum over, over the years and nobody bothered to even try and find out whether they were dead or alive.

I used to believe cats should be let outside to do cat stuff. I was WRONG. (You wouldn't let your dog run round loose.) We've lost two beloved friends that way. But cat's do get out and should be protected by law too.

Totally agree, the agony of not knowing where their pet cat is, or even if it's safe, or injured or worse, and lying dead by the roadside, must be soul destroying for a cat owner. I will sign this petition.

Owners need to be informed so they don't spend years wondering what happened to their cat.

Totally agree. Accidents do happen but the right thing to do is stop. Please make this law happen :)

Cats have equal rights as dogs

There is no difference between dogs and cats therefore cats should be included under the legislation. It is the compassionate thing to report if you hit and kill a family's pet

Totally agree with this..my cat was killed and just left like a piece of rubbish on the road by a heartless driver.

Any animal should be treated like a dog, if you hurt it you are responsible to get help for it.

This needs to happen, my cat is microchipped and we have been looking in to getting her a tracker to put on her collar specifically for this reason. If she wasn't to return she could have been hit and the driver would not have to report it. We would have no way of finding her. It's so stupid how it is one rule for cats and another for dogs they are both well loved pets and become part of the family!

Definitely! This is one law that has to change. As a cat lover I fully support it!

this certainly needs bringing into law..anyone that has lost a feline member of their family will feel the same...

My family are currently going through the exact same situation. My 8 year old son was devastated when his cat Paddy was run over and killed by a car just over a week ago. Thank god he was microchipped and reported by a dog walker who discovered him or we still wouldn't know where he was. This needs to be law.

This should be law, cats are family as much as dogs!

We lost our beautiful Boiby cat last year, he was hit by a car but didn't die instantly. The driver stopped, as did the 2 cars behind. All of the drivers stayed with my cat until he passed then did everything they could to make sure he was picked up and returned to us. We are all still devastated but take some comfort from the fact he wasn't just left and that people helped him

I had one of my cats run over a month and a half ago and the car just drove off, luckily a very kind man pulled him out the way of the road, however he had died instantly. Two more of my cats have gone missing and I'm just hoping it's not due to another car and that they should return home soon! I have two dogs also and my cats provide me with as much love and affection as dogs and are in fact a lot more intriguing and interesting! I really hope this can be achieved with cats being protected under the road traffic act the same as dogs.
