Protect felines under the road traffic act, the same as canines etc. Isle of Man

I feel very strongly about this.

I've quite few cats buried In my back gardens as the result of being running over,in the village where I live,drivers totally ignore the 30 limit,so there's no chance for any animal or child come to think of it.

I actually wrote to the Government regarding this with no result. They seemed to imply that because "felines have the right to roam" they were unwilling to protect them under the road traffic act. I firmly believe that cat owners should microchip their cats and then the Government could put into law that owners be contacted by anyone who does accidentally run over their pet.

Absolutely! Our cats are as important and loved as dogs, I have Never understood why this hasn't always been the case anyway!!

This will be debated in Tynwald, as it was brought up in the oral evidence hearing for new animal welfare laws on island. Please encourage followers to contact there local mhk so they know this is important to them might give it an extra push through.

I think this would be a great idea to make it an offense to run over a feline without consequence, having lost one of mine, which was ran over, it was purely by chance that I found out one week later after posting on social media and posting fliers around with a large reward that I was contacted and told about this, the person that ran him over had taken him to peel police station but they were unable to make a note of this as it was not an offense, they wouldn't hold his body either, I rang the police about this and they denied it at first then admitted it after I'd spoken to the person that has ran him over, this was a week of massive stress and upset and it could have easily been much less so had something like this been in place, I would pay for a license like we do for dogs already, it would be a brilliant idea, something along those lines. I whole heartedly agree with this.

I'm a vet nurse and passionately agree with this. All life is equal. More could be saved if they were brought to the surgery. It is agonising for owners to not know where their kitty went

Last year my beautiful big black cat, Doolish was hit and killed right outside my house. I can't begin to explain the hurt from seeing his life less body. He was killed because of a speeding jeep and only stopped to pull his body out the road. This needs to change. Cats are just as much of a pet and important as a dog. Thank you

It should be the same for cats as they have owners and are loved as much as dogs.

I have cats myself and I don't want them to just thrown away if something happens.

The love felt by a family for a cat is not any different from the love felt for a dog. This needs to be law now

our pets are family members.
